Ojos del Salado, 6.893 meters above sea level, the highest volcano in the world, the highest peak in Chile and the 2nd largest in America after Aconcagua. It is a beautiful climb and once at the top, the tears are inevitable.

Arrival in Santiago and reception, we take a domestic flight for Copiapó, arrival and transfert to your hotel, day free.(free meals)
Meeting at 08:00 at your hotel in Copiapó, begining our expedition by joining the Santa Rosa lagoon which is to 154 kms of Copiapó. The track is not always in very good condition, but the course at the bottom of the Quebrada Paipote is beautiful, crossing the pass (4000 m) and we discover the view of the massive Tres Cruces. We trek the lagoon is a good exercise of an hour or two.
After breakfast,we take our route in 4 x 4, to the laguna verde (4200 m alt.). Between Laguna Santa Rosa and Lama river, we can see small flocks of Guanacos. Finally we discover the laguna verde. Beyond the beautiful landscape that surrounds the lagoon, we will have the chance to bathe in hot water, temperature oscillates between 37 and 41 ºC. Trek about 4 hours to enjoy the site but especially to continue our acclimatization. All-in. Camp. Walking time: 4 hours.
6 hours climbing to the top of the nearby volcano. This allows us to test our physical and mental abilities by touching the 6.000m. Walking time: 5 to 6 hours; Altitude difference: + 1000 m / – 1000 m.
After 3 nights at the same refuge at 4.200 m. altitude, we leave towards the Atacama refuge.Finally our stage of the day is short but can be embellished with a small trek in the vicinity of the Atacama refuge at 5.200 m. All included. Camp.Time of road: 2h on track. Walking time: according to the desire of each.
After breakfast, we trek to Tejos refuge (5.800 m alt.). We follow the track 4×4, it is more comfortable than the path that goes right (sandy with a painful passage in the rocks, it is used instead for the descent). From there you can see the whole way to the crater, and the path that leads to it.Trekking time: 3h; Altitude difference: + 600m.
Guided ascent – climbing on ice with crampons – climbing passage level III – good physical condition required and very good acclimatization, at 4 am begining the climb of the highest volcano in the world. 35-degree path takes us to the glacier, around 6400 meters, where we will have to put on crampons to continue. The last pass is equipped with a fixed rope that will allow us to climb to the top. Counting from 7 to 8 hours to reach the roof of Chile, once up there we can leave a trace of our expedition in the guestbook and enjoy the spectacle that presents itself to us. We go down to the Atacama refuge.Walking time: 10 to 12 hours;Altitude difference: + 1093 m / – 1600m.
Rest day at the Atacama refuge. This day can also be used as a day of catch-up in case of unfinished ascent the day before.
It is now time to leave the altiplano, to leave the Andes mountain range behind us, we go back in the 4×4 for a long descent towards Copiapó, our point of departure.Time of route: 4h on road.Night to Copiapó.
